2007-06-22 LEGAL AID AND DEFENDER APPOINTS SKILLMAN
DIRECTOR OF FAIR HOUSING UNIT
DETROIT Attorney Alicia J. Skillman has
been appointed director of the Fair Housing Unit of the Civil Law
Group of Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc.
Skillman joined Legal Aid and Defender in 2004 as a staff attorney
in the Civil Law Group.
Previously, she had been an attorney at several Detroit-area law
firms, including VanOphem & VanOphem, P.C., Troy and Sachs Waldman,
P.C., Detroit, and ATD Corp. and General Motors Corp.
She earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Florida
A&M University, an Associate of Industrial Engineering Technology
degree from Purdue University and a J.D. degree from Wayne State
University Law School. She lives in Detroit.
Legal Aid and Defender is Michigans largest provider of free
civil legal services to low-income residents. It serves metropolitan
Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
It also represents criminal defendants in Wayne County and the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Including brief
consultations and comprehensive legal services, the public law firm
handles some 15,000 legal matters yearly.
