Legal Aid’s Krupp Earns Pro Bono Service Award
DETROIT – The Detroit Metropolitan Bar
Association (DMBA) bestowed its Pro Bono Service Award on Lynda
S. Krupp, managing attorney of the Private Attorney Involvement
unit of Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc.
Krupp received the award at the DMBA’s annual meeting and awards
banquet May 23 at the Roostertail Banquet Center.
“Lynda is responsible for the recruitment and training of hundreds
pro bono attorneys who annually provide legal service to hundreds
of clients in [Legal Aid and Defender’s] metro Detroit service
area,” the DMBA noted.
Krupp joined Legal Aid and Defender Association in 1999. Previously,
she was director of legal services for Wayne County Neighborhood
Legal Services. She graduated from the University of Detroit with
a B.A. degree in 1972 and from Wayne State University Law School
with a J.D. in 1976. She is a member of the Macomb and Oakland bar
associations, as well as the DMBA.
As a volunteer in the community, Krupp co-founded and coordinated
the Dally in the Alley inner city art fair and a soccer league for
inner city children in Detroit. She and her husband, J. Lee Tilson,
an attorney with Sommers Schwartz, P.C., and their three children
live in Detroit.
Legal Aid and Defender is Michigan’s largest provider of free
civil legal services to low-income residents. It serves metropolitan
Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
It also represents criminal defendants in Wayne County and the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Including brief
consultations and comprehensive legal services, the public law firm
handles some 15,000 legal matters yearly.
“We work with clients in a comprehensive manner, so that as
we solve their legal problems, we help solve other problems as well,”
said Executive Director Deierdre L. Weir. “We help people rebuild
their lives and help families stay together.”
