If you:

Please click here for information on how to get help with your civil legal problem.

Criminal Defense
Legal Aid and Defender also represents criminal defendants in Wayne County Circuit Court and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. If you are charged with a crime and cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint one, either from our State or Federal Defender Office, or from a pool of private criminal defense attorneys.

If you believe that you have been charged with a felony crime and do not have an attorney, you should call the court immediately to determine your status:
Wayne County Circuit Court—313.224.5261
U.S. District Court—313.234.5005

If the court appoints one of our attorneys to represent you, you will be treated with dignity and respect. You will feel like the client of a private law firm.
