Legal Aid and Defender Association provides free civil legal services to low- and moderate-income people and seniors in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the City of Detroit.
If you:

▪ Live in the tri-county area,
▪ Have a low or moderate income, or
▪ Are 60 years of age or older, and
▪ Have a civil legal problem, or
▪ Know such a person who does,

We represent clients in most civil legal matters affecting individuals and families, including:

▪ Landlord-tenant
▪ Child custody
▪ Parental visitation
▪ Consumer purchases
▪ Utility shutoffs

Whatever their cases, we treat all our clients with dignity and respect

Legal Aid and Defender also represents criminal defendants in Wayne County Circuit Court and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. If you are charged with a crime and cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint one, either from our State or Federal Defender Office, or from a pool of private criminal defense attorneys.

If you believe that you have been charged with a felony crime and do not have an attorney, you should call the court immediately to determine your status:
