COMMUNITY OUTREACH

STRONG TIES TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES

There are more than 600,000 low- and moderate-income people and seniors living in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the City of Detroit—the tri-county service area of Legal Aid and Defender Association. Many have legal problems but cannot afford an attorney.

As Michigan’s largest provider of free legal services to the indigent, we therefore maintain strong ties to local communities by:

  • Holding regular legal clinics and other public forums,
  • Conducting a large part of our intake at neighborhood centers, and
  • Collaborating with numerous social service organizations and community groups to provide social as well as legal services.

If you're a human-services professional or volunteer, you can help your clients who have legal problems by referring them to us. We'll treat them with dignity and respect.

You can also distribute our free informational posters and pamphlets, or invite one of our attorneys to speak about legal issues of concern to your organization.
