The vision of the Civil Law Group is to be the best provider of direct legal services and systemic change on behalf of low-income citizens in Michigan, and be a model of excellence from which other providers anywhere can benefit.
Chief Counsel

The Civil Law Group represents low- and moderate-income clients in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the City of Detroit, in virtually every civil legal matter, including disputes with landlords, child custody, parental visitation, consumer purchases and utility shutoffs. The group has three offices:

We also help staff the Free Legal Aid Clinic affiliated with the Wayne State University Law School, at 5435 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.

Our mission
In addition to furthering the organizational mission of Legal Aid and Defender, the mission of the Civil Law Group is to improve the quality of the lives of individuals and families within our client communities through direct legal representation and assistance, and collectively through systemic change in the legal system.
